A Touch Helps Sick Coral Get Well

Coral lives in the ocean. It can look like a rock or a plant, but coral is an animal!

Tiny helpers live inside coral. They make food for the coral and give it bright colors.

When the water gets too hot, the helpers leave. The coral turns white and gets sick.

Scientists tried something new. They put a sick white coral right next to a healthy twin. The two pieces touched.

The healthy coral shared its tiny helpers. In seven weeks, the sick coral got its color back!

A Chubby Sea Animal From Long Ago

Long, long ago, a sea covered part of Wyoming. Animals a lot like squid swam in it.

Scientists found fossils of one of them. Most fossils like this are thin, like a pencil. But this one is short and fat, like a barrel!

It is a brand-new kind of animal. Scientists named it Wyoteuthis. The name means “squid from Wyoming.”

It lived about 160 million years ago, when dinosaurs were alive.
